Diarmuid and Grainne
Famous Celtic lovers. Grainne, daughter of
Cormac, King of Ireland, was engaged against her will to the
aged, Finn MacCuhal, leader of the Red Branch Knights. But,
Grainne fell in love with the warrior, Diarmuid. They both lived
on the run for years. Finally, they settled into Grainne's fort.
Together on the battlements, they embraced and enraged the
pursuing Finn. In the end, Dairmuid was slain by the jealous
Finn.
